Dancing Shoes

I'm guessing a lot of you guys have been doing ballet since you were 5, but I'm guessing there is a fair few others out here like me who are all grown up, stiff creaky and who always wanted to try it!

For a few years I'd been going back and forth wanted to take it up, but was always afraid about being too old, too unfit and too blobby to dare. This week though I took the plunge and signed up for adult beginner classes at a dance school near my house! I wrote a little blog post about getting over some personal hangups and getting a little closer to being more the person I want to be. I thought it might be interesting to a few of my fellow fancy wallflowers over here too :)

You really should go for it. With adult classes everyone there is in the same boat as you, and the sooner you start something the younger you will be when you really start to get good at it.

I first took a ballet class when I was 15, and felt too old and unfit and blobby too! I was hooked from the first set of plies and soon forgot to feel old and unfit and blobby :-)

Now I'm 36 and just come back from my Saturday morning ballet class. Still hooked.

So lovely to see someone else who loves ballet as an adult :-)

ETA read your post on your blog. Totally awesome. I soooo hope you get as hooked as I am! I can't think of a nicer wish than that for anyone.

Thanks and that's so great to hear! I wish I had just jumped in all those years ago like you did, but I'm striving to catch up! I loved the 1st class, it was a bit of information overload but I've been trying to make sense of everything the rest of the week, and been practicing every spare minute I get (time it takes to boil the kettle for tea is plie practice time!) It's easy to get hooked on, i can't wait for my next class on Monday!

Yes! I need to practise my retire (lifting my foot to my knee with the leg out to the side) and releve (ie standing on the ball of my feet) and waiting for the kettle to boil is a very good time to do it, isn't it?

So glad you're enjoying it. Makes me happy when people love ballet as much as I do!
